Damn, It IS Inconvenient

I've heard a lot about global warming over the years. And although politicians have used it as a tug-o-war issue, science cannot refute the fact that it's been happening and it's bad. Simply put, there is no other side.

But that doesn't put a wedge in my deep cynicism. The tree-huggers always argue that we have to do something about global warming for the sake of our children. It is our responsibility to protect their future.

Since I don't have children and don't plan to have children, I always thought, "Screw the environment! When I'm on my death bed and the earth is on the brink of environmental disaster, I will scream, 'So long, suckas!'"

However, after seeing the Al Gore documentary, An Inconvenient Truth (which was just released on DVD), I learned that all the horrible stuff that will be happening because of global warming will be happening in my lifetime. IN MY LIFETIME!

That gives me a whole new perspective about the world I live in, and my apartment now boasts energy-saving florescent light bulbs—not because I want to save humanity, but because I want to save myself. There is no motivation greater than that.
