Noel Alumit Wants to Possess Prince...Again!

Novelist Noel Alumit (Talking to Moon, Letters to Montgomery Clift), who for some reason always takes offense when I come up to him in public and call him "a dirty Filipino whore," has always wanted to be me. It's sort of creepy, like that serial killer in The Silence of the Lambs who was trying to make a suit out of human skin. I keep telling Noel that he will never possess me, so instead he does things like create literary events with me in it. It's as close as he's gonna get.

If you're in the Los Angeles area, come to A Different Light Bookstore in West Hollywood on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 7:30PM for the launch of a new reading series curated by Noel. I'm the featured writer, and the up-and-coming Giovanni Ortega and Serena Lin will read from their work as well.

More details about this great event are on Noel's blog. (By the way, check out my intriguing conversation with Noel in my BAMBOO NATION podcast, in the episode dated February 20, 2007.)

As you know, I love to shake up and subvert form and tradition—that's the impetus behind my "punk rock musical," Emophiliacs, and my solo show/concert/bingo parlor hybrid, JUKEBOX STORIES. I'm going to take the same approach with this event at A Different Light.

At book readings, you expect an author to read from his work, and I could very well read some monologues or excerpts from plays, but I think I'm actually going to present select BAMBOO NATION blog entries. That's right! My blog—live! I don't think anybody's done that before, and I love being a pioneer. I might have a few other tricks up my sleeve as well.

Come see me. I'm even funnier in real life!
