The New Lead Singer of Journey?!

Loren kept telling me to blog about this, but I wouldn't believe him that it was true. And now, even though the information is posted on Journey's official website, I still don't quite believe it. Are you ready for this?

The classic rock band, Journey—known for such musical wonders as "Open Arms" and "Don't Stop Believing," belted by throaty Steve Perry—has a new lead singer. His name is Arnel Pineda, he has been singing Journey covers for years in a band called The Zoo, and he is from the Philippines. That's right! The new frontman for Journey is Filipino!

The Journey website reveals how he was discovered:

"I was frustrated about not having a singer," explains guitarist Neal Schon, "so I went on YouTube for a couple of days and just sat on it for hours. I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted. After watching the videos over and over again, I had to walk away from the computer and let what I heard sink in because it sounded too good to be true. I thought, 'he can't be that good.' But he is that good, he's the real deal and so tremendously talented. Arnel doesn't sound synthetic and he’s not emulating anyone. I tried to get a hold of him through YouTube and I finally heard from him that night, but it took some convincing to get him to believe that it really was me and not an imposter."

Arnel finishes the story:

"My friend Noel picked up the message on YouTube and told me it was from Neal. I thought it was a hoax so I ignored it. Noel said, 'what if it really was Neal and he wanted to offer you the chance of a lifetime?' So I e-mailed Neal back and the rest is history."

I have to hurry and post clips of me singing Night Ranger songs on YouTube! I could be a star!

Bear witness to Arnel singing a Journey cover with his band:

This is like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch! Neal Schon is delusional.

I guess karaoke is better then retirement?!?! How pathetic and sad.

To Anonymous: Apparently, you're the one that's delusional. This guy can definitely sing, while you I'm guessing you can't even manage karaoke. You're the one who's pathetic and sad.

  3. Prince, you made me cry with this post. I mean, Journey's Escape album was a highlight of my youth. There's some weird irony to all this.

  4. I have to admit that this info tugged at my heartstrings a bit. It is a very bizarre story of triumph.

  5. Tugged at your heartstrings? Ur, you have a heart?
