Valuable Advice

When you're home alone on Christmas Eve and full of holiday cheer, don't watch A Woman Under the Influence. John Cassavetes's two-and-a-half-hour 1974 classic is not about Gena Rowlands's descent into madness, as I had previously thought—the movie opens and she's already bat-shit crazy!

It's all rather painfully fascinating, but I just can't finish it tonight. I mean, I want to wake up tomorrow alive or, at the very least, not suicidal.
