After the Internet started buzzing about how NBC kept openly gay diver, Matthew Mitchum, deep in the closet during their coverage of his gold medal-winning event, an NBC spokesperson played dumb earlier this week by saying, "It's not possible to cover the entire personal story of every athlete regarding their performance.... It's just not possible to single out coverage."
Well, not many were going to let NBC off the hook, and the network sort of caved in to the pressure yesterday by releasing this statement from NBC Olympics President Gary Zenkel: "We regret that we missed the opportunity to tell Matthew Mitcham's story. We apologize for this unintentional omission."
Apology accepted? Sure, I'll take the bait. I'm easy. Just keep throwing more hot photos of Matthew Mitchum at me.
